Voters across the state of California will have a chance to make their voice heard in primary election races June 2.
In California’s June 2 primary, you can vote for any candidate from any party. The top two candidates move on to the November election, when voters choose the winner. In the governor’s race six Democrats and two Republicans are leading the primary race. All 80 California Assembly seats are up for reelection, as well as 20 Senate seats (those from even-numbered districts).
You can return your ballot:
By drop box:Â You may personally deliver your ballot to any polling or ballot drop-off location in California by 8:00 p.m. on Election Day.
In person:Â Polling locations are established by county elections officials and are open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, June 2, 2026. To find a location to vote early before Election Day, visit caearlyvoting.sos.ca.gov.
By mail:Â Return your ballot by mail as soon as you receive it. Mailed ballots must be postmarked on or before Election Day and received not later than 7 days after Election Day. To ensure your ballot is postmarked by Election Day make sure to mail it at least five days before Election Day, June 2, 2026. If mailing on Election Day, get a hand-stamped postmark from a postal employee inside a United States Post Office.

How can I track my ballot to find out if it has been received and counted?
Voters can receive notifications on the status of their returned ballot by signing up for the "Where’s My Ballot?" tool.
Sign up at wheresmyballot.sos.ca.gov to receive automatic updates by text message (SMS), email, or voice call.
You can also go to voterstatus.sos.ca.gov to find out if your vote was counted.
